ALDI Nord and Trigo agree on strategic partnership

Essen, 23.11.2022

The ALDI Nord Group of Companies and the technology provider Trigo Vision ltd. are entering into a strategic partnership. A joint contract was signed on November 22, 2022. The aim is to closely interlink the development of technology solutions that make shopping even easier for ALDI customers.

What the future of discount retail could look like can already be experienced today in Utrecht, Netherlands. There, the ALDI Nord Group of Companies is testing the automated capturing of shopping processes under real conditions together with Trigo. The advantage: customers can simply pack up their goods and leave the shop without checking out. In the future, ALDI Nord and Trigo want to further develop the complex technology behind this in close cooperation. The strategic partnership that has now been concluded will provide a framework for this.

"To successfully lead discount retail into the future, technology and business must go hand in hand," says Sinanudin Omerhodzic, Chief Technology Officer at ALDI Nord. "Our close partnership with Trigo unites exactly that and brings together two true experts in their field. The cooperation in Utrecht has shown that we share the right values and that together we can develop quick solutions with an eye for essentials, always focusing on customer benefits."

Michael Gabay, Trigo’s co-founder and CEO, says: „We are particularly proud to work with ALDI Nord, who has been at the forefront of discount retail innovation for decades. This next chapter of our partnership is about the Digitization of Discount Retailing, where computer vision revolutionizes the global discount model.  We are excited to partner with ALDI Nord on building the infrastructure for the future of discount retail.”

With the strategic partnership between ALDI Nord and Trigo, the test of the best checkout system in Utrecht, which is running since the summer, is also entering a new phase. "We don't have final reports yet, but the initial results are promising," says Sinanudin Omerhodzic. "We are now building on this and further developing the ALDI Shop & Go concept and the cutting-edge technology behind it: Discount meets computer vision technology 2.0." This will also include linking with other software applications – for example, checking stock levels in real time in order to minimise out-of-stock or expired items and to be able to control processes in the shops and the supply chain in advance. With the Shop & Go concept in Utrecht, ALDI Nord and Trigo have a test environment at their disposal in which these and other digital solutions can be tried out in practice long before they are actually ready for the market.
